Greg Chandler was on the hunt for a ’66 Chevy II Nova when a friend tipped him off about a 1966 Chevelle that might be for sale.
Upon arrival at the owner’s shop, it was apparent that this Chevelle was little more than a shell and boxes of parts being prepped for a racing career.
Since Greg had always loved the body styling of the 66/67 Chevelles, he decided to take on the challenge and purchased the basket case for himself. His plan for the ’66 was to become a resto-mod SS396 clone, and the project took 5 years to complete. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, Greg helped in any way that he could with the build, installing much of the interior and other bits and pieces throughout the car.
“This car is so special because I rescued it from the chop shop. They were planning to drag race the car, and I restored it.”

With the resto-mod 1966 Chevelle SS396 restoration completed, Greg had hand controls equipped so he could attend car shows all summer long. It is currently powered by a 425hp 396ci big block paired to a TH350 transmission. Greg plans to add an overdrive transmission in the near future.
“The car is a real head-turner, and I get compliments all the time. Typically it wins in its class. I love driving the car and listening to the BB 396 roar.”
