Brian C’s 1969 Camaro SS396

Built From The Ground Up

Brian C’s 1969 Camaro SS396

Brian found this 1969 Camaro sitting with a blown motor at a gas station all the way back in 1982. He talked the current owner into selling it to him and this Camaro avoided a fate of being cut up for drag racing.

The engine was blown, and the original Hugger Orange paint was more like red oxide primer at that point, but Brian had a gem of a driver on his hands. He went on to repaint it metallic grey in 1984, installed various “day 2” modifications, and simply enjoyed it for the next ten years.

In 1994 Brian moved across the country to Texas and had the Camaro transported there, but it would be a fateful trip as the Camaro was extensively damaged in transit. The hood, grille, and header panel were totally crushed, while the left fender and roof were dented. He decided to take the check and perform a restoration himself, in order to attempt to get it as close to original as he could afford to.

“The car is special to be because it was my first car, I still have it and I restored it myself.”

Brian

It currently has a 396 big block, not original to the car but it is date and cast number correct out of a 1969 Chevelle. It rows through the gears via a Muncie M20 transmission as well. Brian plans to acquire original SMOG components and other date correct parts to return it to factory condition.
