Kenny bought this 1966 Chevelle SS396 from his friend in 1986 at a bargain price the same year that his son James was born.
He was selling to get funds for a snowmobile to ride in the hills of Alaska, and the other interested party looking to buy the Chevelle wanted to put snow tires on it to drive in the winter. Kenny’s friend gave him the opportunity to purchase it for less than the other buyer’s offer simply to save it from that fate.
Kenny and his son James are now both co-owners of the 1966 Chevelle, with James being the go-to mechanic currently. The pair work on it as needed to keep the Chevelle going strong with parts supplied from SS396.com.
It still has the original big block 396, but they’ve swapped in a B&M racing transmission with a manual valve body, 2500 RPM stall converter, and reverse shift pattern. In the future they’d like to swap the original 4 speed transmission back in along with taking out the 4.10 gearing in order to make the Chevelle a better cruiser.
This Chevelle is special to both Kenny and James since it has been a father & son long term project. He hopes James & his son will someday continue the tradition when he is old enough.
“Buying this car the year my son was born and now us working on it together is the best way to fix up and restore a classic.”
