Dan’s only had this 1971 El Camino for a short while and it was off to a rough start. He had to have it towed on the first drive.
The 1971 El Camino was constantly overheating and would not go over 35 MPH at the time. Dan partially diagnosed the issue by replacing the fuel filter, but that only fixed the speed problem and it remained overheating at 40-50 MPH instead. He will be replacing the entire cooling system next.
He’s willing to put up with it, as it is a great example otherwise. This 1971 El Camino is in the correct range of years (70-72) that he’s interested in, and there’s no rust. The 350 small block and TH350 transmission also run well, aside from the overheating that is. He also has an Edelbrock intake manifold, air cleaner, and carburetor installed on the small block 350 to spice things up a bit.
Once the cooling has been addressed, he will move on to swapping the interior from a bench seat, column shift to a bucket seat, floor shift. A new stereo and paint job are also in the works.
