Jason was fortunate to have a second chance at this 1988 Camaro IROC-Z after being forced to sell back in 2009. Eleven years later he has been reunited with his favorite car.
His Aunt had owned a dark grey 1989 Camaro Z28 during his teenage years and he had fallen head over heels with third generation Camaros because of that car. It came as no surprise that Jason would pick one up of his own at some point, and he did exactly that in his 20s despite that not being part of his plan at the time.
A family friend had informed him about this all white 1988 Camaro IROC-Z that he was selling, and Jason knew that he had to have it. Even though his wife and two children were his priority, he couldn’t pass up on the offer his friend had made him.
Jason’s 1988 Camaro came equipped with the L98 tuned port injection 350 small block and 700R4 transmission, which he removed in favor of a 4 speed M22 rock crusher Muncie. He did it simply because he was told that he couldn’t. A short time later, Jason was undergoing a divorce and was forced to part ways with his 1988 Camaro.
Fast forward 11 years later, and he was now engaged once more and his kids from the previous marriage were grown and living with him. One day he was browsing the new-ish FB Marketplace and stumbled upon a car that looked suspiciously like his old Camaro. Instinctively, Jason knew he had to contact the seller for more information.
It dawned on Jason that this very well could be his old car, or one giant coincidence at worst. With the seller now in contact, he realized that there was one way he could find out for absolutely certain. If it were his, there should be a small burn in the headliner where the t-top glass had reflected a beam of sunlight from how he had placed them in the back seat one hot summer day. Sure enough, the seller confirmed the burn mark, Jason knew it was his old 1988 Camaro. Neither he nor his son could truly believe it was the case.
Needless to say, Jason was overjoyed to have a second chance at his favorite car. The plan is to get the ball rolling on a restoration so that it could be back in action by spring 2021. Jason is going to run the L98 as is for the time being, but he eventually wants to swap in either a twin turbo setup or a procharger.
