Glenn S’s 1970 Chevelle – Feb ’21 Customer Car of the Month

Glenn has owned this 1970 Chevelle since 1991, purchasing it when he was only 20 years old for only $750! It needed some work but he fixed it up and painted it, then daily drove it for years.

He began his frame-off restoration in 2012 and finished the project in 2020. The goal was to restomod the car into the 1970 Chevelle of his dreams; he’s had a soft spot for Chevelles ever since he was a kid, when his father used to have a ’69 Chevelle that Glenn would “help” him work on.

That mindset was taken to the next level for the restoration, as Glenn would take on the project entirely on his own. He purchased a welder and taught himself how to weld, replacing all of the sheet metal on the 1970 Chevelle except for the roof. He even removed the body from the frame on his own, doing everything in his garage.

“I am not a mechanic, or a body man, or even a painter. I’m a network engineer but love cars. I self-taught everything. When I look at this finished product, it takes my breath away. It is exactly what I’ve dreamed of having since I pushed a similar match box car around on the floor.”

Glenn’s Chevelle currently has a 454 big block with a Weiand tunnel ram intake, and dual 600cfm Holley carburetors sitting on top. Inside the engine are a Crane Magnum cam and roller rockers, while the transmission has been upgraded to a TCI Streetfighter TH350 that also has a Hughes 3000 RPM stall converter. Eventually he wants to get this over to a dyno to see what kind of numbers she is putting down.

“The car is exactly like I always wanted. Now I just like to drive it around and show it off to people. I love the countless thumbs up I get from random strangers.”

Glenn plans on showing off his pride and joy every chance he gets, whether that be driving around town or attending local shows. Who can blame him, it’s not often that a single person rebuilds a 1970 Chevelle inside and out!

"I heard about this company from a guy that had a good experience. Glad I found this site at the beginning of my rebuild. I bought nearly every Chevelle specific part from here. So much that the delivery guy actually asked to see the car because he practically delivered a whole car by that point. Every part I got was high quality. The one time I had an issue the problem was immediately rectified."
