Frank H’s 1970 Chevelle SS 396

Built From The Ground Up

Frank H’s 1970 Chevelle SS 396

Frank found this 1970 Chevelle on eBay for a reasonable price, so he bought it sight unseen. Even though it was listed as “running and driving great” as it turns out that was not the case.

Frank had the Chevelle shipped from the seller in Florida to near his home in Pennsylvania. Within a quarter mile of driving off from the delivery location, the Chevelle overheated. After sourcing a new radiator, thermostat, belts and hoses from Ground Up SS396.com, he discovered it had a bent frame too!

“1970 Chevelle is my favorite car in the whole world, my brother had one in high school and i could never afford one, until now!”

Frank H

This discovery led Frank down the long road of a frame-up restoration. He restored the chassis and took the time to address anything else that needed it, rather than be in for another nasty surprise later down the line. He replaced front and rear suspension components, new quarter panels and fenders, and refreshed the interior and trim.

“After 2 years she is as good as new, all stock and a little better!”

Frank H

At least this 1970 Chevelle is a real SS, with the numbers matching 396 big block and the original Muncie M21 4-speed transmission. Frank plans on simply driving and enjoying the product of his efforts over the past two years.

Since completing the Chevelle project, he’s taken on a 1970 Nova and is giving it the same treatment!
