Mark S’s 1966 El Camino

Built From The Ground Up

Mark S’s 1966 El Camino

Mark found this 1966 El Camino on the new car dealer lot in December 1966. She is a family member who has tackled children and grandchildren. It cost $1300.00 brand new then, her value today is no amount of money could buy her, it would be like selling a child.

The 1966 El Camino has a 392ci, the original 327ci 375hp is sitting in his workshop. The original Muncie 4 speed and differential are installed. The carrier in the diff was changed to a positraction.

The special thing about her is the interior. Though it has some original stuff there are also mods. The instrument cluster was removed, and he built a cooler using Autometer gauges. He also built a center console. He could not afford a store-bought one as he does not have a Fort Knox to buy one.

She is due for another restoration. He will keep what she has now, add air condition and build something to put behind the seats.

"Shopping with Ground Up was an uneventful pleasure. Prices are usually equal to or best Eckler, OPGI and others."
