A friend of Don’s showed up in 1970 Monte Carlo back in 1984, and he had to have it. He sold his 1972 Cutlass and called him up to give him the $800.00 he wanted for it. Don was starting a new job at a parts store the same day and didn’t have time to take him home. So he dropped him off at the bus stop with fare money.
He has kept the 1970 Monte Carlo looking as stock as possible but has installed a Blueprint series Crane cam and roller rockers. A high-volume oil pump and a vintage 67 cast iron Chevrolet Holley style intake manifold. The 3310 Holley was modified extensively years ago by Bill H, who worked with Davy A of NASCAR fame. He has kept all the modifications to this carb to this day, and it runs amazingly. The stock 3.30 gears were swapped for a set of 3.42’s
His 1970 Monte Carlo was produced in Van Nuys, California on Nov 9th, 1969. Information gleaned from the build sheet was found many years ago under the back seat. It is an original Big Block 400 (402) four-speed car one of 589 produced. It is a triple black car with buckets, a console, and no air conditioning. It has the tach dash with gauges, map light mirror, and fiber optic windshield washer monitor.
He’s installed a few aftermarket parts on the car, and his plan is to return her to stock condition. There are a few things he needs to find, such as a big block fan shroud, and an original BB air cleaner. She still has her original engine but the Muncie 4 speed is a 69 unit he found some twenty years ago. He hopes to have the 1970 Monte Carlo at Goodguys in Des Moines, Iowa in a couple of years. Freshen up the paint and clear coat from 10 years ago as she has some garage rash.
