Larry was looking for a 1st gen Camaro to build when a friend gave him a guy’s name on a napkin. It said this guy wants to get rid of this 1971 Camaro that needs a lot of work for reasonable cheap.
He called and met with him in an unlit, dark, cluttered shed and saw a diamond in the ruff. No interior, no engine or trans, and best of all NO rust on the 1971 Camaro. He said it had been sitting in there for a while and needed it gone. He asked him what he thought he needed for it and was surprised when he said only $1000.
They discussed the lack of interior and settled on $800. He went home and grabbed the trailer, and some cash and hauled A** back. He already pulled the factory silver, very straight no rust Camaro out of the shed by the time he made it back.
He spent a year and a half disassembling and rebuilding the 1971 Camaro to where it is now. Decoding the tag, the car was originally silver, 6-cylinder, and an automatic. Perfect donor for a big block, 4 speed, and fun.
1968 325 hp 396 bored .030 over. Closed chamber heads. 540” lift 308 duration Crane cam. Edelbrock dual-plane intake with an 800 spread bore Holley. 1970 Super T-10 4 speed. 3.73 rear-end gears with a power trax locker.
Changed the idiot gauges over to 150 speedo factory tach and factory amps, fuel, temp, and clock. Conversion from automatic to 4 speed with factory console.
He plans on just enjoying the ride!!!!
