Mike has been searching for his old 1966 Chevelle for about 3 years. When he had run out of options, he started to look for another. While recovering from a hip replacement, he was up early one morning, and this 1966 Chevelle came on the internet. It was only 80 miles away so Mike rushed over to beat anyone else there.
The guy that had it was actually fixing it back for an employee of his who had bought the car new in California trading in a 1963 Corvair (what a trade-up), after driving it for a few years he sold it to his brother-in-law who never got around to doing much with it when he and wife got a divorce.
That’s when the two of them talked this man into buying it with the intention of getting it back after the divorce. Fast forward 12 years and Rex decided that if he was ever getting rid of it, he was going to start fixing it up. So when this original owner sees it, he will have to have it back. Unfortunely before he gets it completed the original owner passed away, that’s where Mike comes in 3 hours after the car is posted.
When Mike first saw it, he couldn’t believe it looked just like his old car, all the 1966 Chevelle had been restored except the paint which was still original and the same color as his car was in 1980.
A little dialing in, a power steering unit, radiator, and recovered seats, and this time capsule is Mike’s. Thanks, Rex for making Mike’s dream come back. He didn’t know that Mike and his wife had gotten married in a car like this! Only better.
It has a fresh 396 original motor about 475 horse and a wide ratio 4 speed. Like a lot of 1966 Chevelle’s, the metal around the rear window was rotted but had been replaced and painted to match up with the original paint.
Mike wants to be careful what he does next, as he does not want to destroy the original paint on the car.
