Charles’s father purchased this 1970 Chevelle new and September 1969 He was 30 years old at the time and couldn’t make up his mind between the 1970 Chevelle and the Monte Carlo because it had just come out that year. Lucky for Charles his father picked the 1970 Chevelle.
He got the ride home from the dealership in Oklahoma and that car when he was 5 years old. He used it in a company car it was a Malibu at the time. They had A350 with automatic air conditioning and an AM radio those were the options. It was autumn gold and had a light tan vinyl top It had a stirring column shifter and a bench seat originally. This car’s been a part of Charles’s life since he was 5 years old. His dad drove this car as a company car for 8 years and then gave it to Charles’s mother who drove it till he went into college. Charles has had it ever since he stopped driving it in about 2004 or add and park it until 2019 when his dad was to turn 80 years old his request was, that he wanted to drive it when he was 80. He got to drive it but the paint was peeling the tires were 25 years old, so they just stayed in the neighborhood, but he was happy with that. Then he wanted to improve on it so they started a 2-year project to make it look better and run better and what you have here is what they can accomplish in 2 years.
The engine is the original block is Original. It is now 383. we have installed the progression hei distributor which is a really cool long tube header followed by a 3-inch Flowmaster exhaust and Flowmaster supper 44s. The transmission is a TH 350.
It has 2.73 gears which are great for the highway. Generally speaking, you only need first gear to enter the highway.
Charles is going to install a 700r4 when the present transmission gives up a torque converter from a corvette for a slight stall speed advantage.
