L. T’s 1969 Chevelle

Built From The Ground Up

L. T’s 1969 Chevelle

L.T. was looking for another project after completing a ‘71 Vette frame off restoration. He discovered a fella that was selling his 1969 Chevelle in order to compensate his daughter’s wedding coin. He was only the third owner and the Chevelle had 72k original miles on it.

The 1969 Chevelle boasts a big block Chevy L78 396 bored out to 408ci with 549 horsepower at 6000 with 519ft-lbs of torque at 4200rpm. It has a solid roller cam with a rocker stud girdle, aluminum rods and pistons, Brodix heads, and an airgap ported intake. The transmission is a M21 rebuilt to M22 specs using auto gear and Italian gears.

He beefed up the ride with several modifications and restored parts including a Supercomp 2 1/8 headers, March serpentine conversion, MSD ignition, and an Original 4 core radiator, an Aluminum 3.5 inch 1350 series driveshaft, Full Hotchkiss suspension, QA1 adjust shocks, Wilwood 4 wheel disc and booster master, and a Street 12.7/1 steer box with Borgenson steering conversion!

The Chevelle is unique for its Original full panel frame. The car had a 15×7 Original 1961 manufactured Torque Thrust and D107 wheels that (which are now re-boxed and stored). Wheels on car are aftermarket wheels that fit the build.

Every feature works including the old annoying key buzzer/chime! It can be a bit of a sleeper but knows how to wake up when fed!

L.T. completed the restoration over 5 years. The car is done, but he’s building a 598BB with TREMEC TKX to save the original motor and trans.

"Made seven large purchases with Ground Up who provided considerable knowledge and product with fitment excellent. Thank You."

-L. T.
