Darrell S’ 1966 Chevelle

Built From The Ground Up

Darrell S’ 1966 Chevelle

Darrell’s 1966 Chevelle was owned by the same person since 1968.

The man, unfortunately, passed away last year from Covid19 and his wife sold the car to Darrell. The 1966 Chevelle was originally a Malibu, but Darrell took a totaled 1966 SS396 and installed the 12-bolt rear, motor, and transmission from it to the Malibu.

The car was painted in 1978 from original Ice Blue to white. He recently changed the rear-end gear to a 3:08. That made it highway friendly for cruising 65 mph @ 2200rpm. He upgraded to power disc brakes up front and enjoys this car more than any other car he has ever owned. It’s neat for Darrell to be the 3rd owner and realize the car has never been abused.

The smell, sound, and feel of it is amazing; restoring the classic car is therapeutic after a stressful week. Darrell said, “That’s what an old car is to me and living in years gone by”.

The engine is a 1966 396/360hp homed with new rings, cam, and oil pump (stock) the M20 shifts great with a Hurst Competition Shifter. The rear is a factory 12 bolt posi traction 3:08.

Darrell considers his the factory bumper guards rare. The stock interior, down to the jack and spare still in it. He’s not crazy about the white paint so, he plans to disassemble the car and paint it back Marina Blue and will add a new exhaust system soon.

"Purchased bumpers for my 1966 Nova. "
