The first 1969 El Camino Barry owned, had a Corvette 327 engine with a Powerglide transmission. It was around 1978 when he was in High School. At that time, he lived in San Fernando Valley, CA, and drove to UC San Diego to go to school. Unfortunately, times got rough, money was low, and he had to sell it.
40 years later, he was able to pick up another 1969 El Camino SS396 through Vintage Worldwide Auto Sales in Denver, CO. The previous owner was from Fallbrook, CA who he looked up, and he confirmed it was a true SS. He only drove it a handful of times over 11 years he owned it.
Barry had the engine pulled, all seals replaced, new roller cam, lifters, and a new timing belt. At that time he was able to confirm the engine serial is a number matching engine for the VIN. It’s got a new radiator and Holley Sniper Fuel injection.
His favorite thing about it is it’s a true supersport with engine serial matching body VIN. He plans to redo interior door panels and seat cover soon!
