Late one evening 9 years ago, Charlie decided to check eBay before bed and this 1969 Camaro X55 SS Convertible in LeMans Blue popped up in his search results. The current bid was at $27k with a Buy It Now at $35k.
He figured he would place a bid on the 1969 Camaro in the morning, but his excitement got the better of him and he couldn’t sleep. Charlie took a chance and wound up pulling the trigger later on that evening.
It was advertised with a non-matching 350 with an M22 4-speed and the original 12 bolt posi differential. Unfortunately, the 1969 Camaro was coming from a long distance seller and there was no time for Charlie to order an inspection. Once the Camaro arrived in his possession, he realized the engine was toast.
Even still, he was completely attached to the Camaro and he decided that since the drivetrain wasn’t original anyway that he would drop in a low mileage LS1 paired to a T56 6-speed transmission. He figured it might as well be something that he could truly get enjoyment from. With the help of his good friend Nick, the swap was performed.
“A cool thing about the X55 Camaro is that it has a power top and power windows which makes for putting the top and windows down a breeze even at a stop light!”
Charlie and Nick are now at the final stage of installing the complete suspension package from Total Cost Involved. He anticipates that the transformation will make this classic 1969 Camaro handle more like a modern day sports car and be absolutely fun to drive with modern rack & pinion steering.
