On July 6, 2019, Daniel was at the Donut Derelicts car gathering in Huntington Beach, CA. He had sold his ’49 Shoebox Ford about a year and a half prior. Daniel noticed a 1966 El Camino pass by because it resembled one he had in high school. Daniel and his brother later saw the El Camino parked with a for sale sign on it.
A crowd had gathered around it and several people were talking with the owner. Daniel finally got his chance to talk to him and while asking questions, he realized he was his 1976 high school auto shop teacher, Mr. “C”! So there it was…an El Camino exactly like the one he had in high school, and it was his auto shop teacher selling it! It was meant to be! He lives about five miles from his house house, and Daniel was there within the hour to pay for it! That is how he acquired the 1966 El Camino that he has longed for ever since destroying his in 1977.
The car had a sharp look but wore out 396 in it. So that was swapped out with a new ZZ427 crate engine. It also has a 700R4 transmission with a 12-bolt rear end. The car was originally a big block car, which came out of the Kansas City Mo. plant, with a build date of the second week of December. It came with bucket seats, complete with headrests. The original paint was Regal Red and is now Marina Blue. Daniel also added a set of set of Schott Mach V wheels.
Daniel enjoys going to the Good Guys events. The car is worthy of being entered into a show, but he would not expect a trophy. However, it is well worth sharing the car for other enthusiasts to enjoy. Maybe when he gets it to where he wants it, then he may enter it!
