Danny’s dad began the restoration on this 1968 Camaro but needed to sell it due to divorce. He took a friend to look at it, but he felt he didn’t have the skills to accomplish the project. So he couldn’t let it go to just anyone. So Danny purchased it from his dad for $2,000 in 1992.
The original 396 and 4 speed Muncie was not with the car when his dad bought it. However, the seller had a 396 and a TH400 from a 1970 Chevelle he did give him for the car. They rebuilt the engine and added an RV cam to give it a little extra power. He was able to find an M-21 Muncie and a friend to help rebuild it when he put the 1968 Camaro together.
It is an original SS/RS and was 99% complete when his dad bought it. All of the stainless steel, taillight, and hood ornaments are original. The hidden headlight vacuum canisters are also original and in excellent working condition. A great friend painted the car the original Matador red and Danny painted the original black stripes, back panel, and rocker panel as original in his shop. The interior has been restored to original with new seat foam vinyl covers and a new headliner.
He shows the car at least a few times a year, drives it to work and enjoys it when the weather is permitting. It has received many trophies, and he always gets “thumbs up” anytime it leaves the garage from car enthusiasts.
