Ground Up’s 1979 Camaro Z/28 Resto-Mod
Ground Up’s 1979 Camaro Z/28 Resto-mod – fully restored in 2014
Ground Up’s 1979 Camaro Z/28 was found on the Internet and was shipped from Michigan to the Ground Up™ warehouse in late 2012. The car was in worse shape than initially expected and the car had to undergo a full frame off Ground Up restoration. The Camaro’s bodywork and paint were performed and completed by Russ at Boss Fiberglass and the car was fully assembled by Nick and his crew at Unique Performance.
This is where the car got a touch of modern-day automotive technology. Detroit Speed provided us with the speed kit-3 suspension kit to give the Camaro a nice smooth ride and the engine was pulled out and substituted for a GM Ram Jet 350 crate motor with a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission. The interior also got an update from the original styling of the 1979 Camaro with TMI deluxe black on blue bucket seats and door panels, GT Performance GT3 steering wheel kit, a Classic Auto Air heating, and A/C kit, Retro Sound audio system, and a complete gage kit from AutoMeter. The car all came together over two years and was completed in 2014.
