James started looking for a project car to work on with his son. They had considered choosing several cars that they had found, but then they heard about this 1979 Camaro z28. The current owner was stripping it down to make a drag car out of it. James and his son were convinced that they had to save the car from a hellish future and bring her back!
Since then, it has been a long road. Unfortunately, James sustained an injury to his head and neck on the job. It’s been difficult for him to continue working on the car with his son because of damaged nerves that cause him to have headaches, dizziness and nausea. James’ son was 14 years old when they purchased the ‘79 Camaro and now, he is 18. His original intention for the car was that it could be restored by now so his son would be able to drive it to school.
The future remains bright for James and his son. They still plan to go to car shows together one day and have fun enjoying each other’s company.
The Z28 has a 350 bord 30 over flat top piston, a Hydraulic roller Cam with aluminum heads, a Holly 750 rebuild 350 turbo shift kit, and a 2300 stall converter. They also put in a Posi-trac with 357 gear air shocks. Now they are rebuilding the front end with bushings, ball joints, and steering geometry.
What makes it special to James is that the Camaro Z28 had very little rust on it, and they were able to get a hold of it before it got too bad.
