Jim purchased the car in 2005 from a friend of a friend in Sacramento Calif. It was mostly stock, with a worn-out 327, Saginaw 4 speed, and a bench seat. Jim wanted a ’67 Chevelle since he was a teenager in the early 80’s. His neighbor at that time had a Marina Blue one that was his daily driver. So, Jim heard it, and saw it every day. It was love at first sight for him!
This car is very sentimental to Jim as it has been a true father/son project. Jim’s dad and him over the years built this car together. The only part of the build they didn’t do was the paint and interior. All the mechanical was done by them. They built the engine together and the rear end as well. Jim got to spend many hours under the hood, and under the car with his dad.
The engine is a 434ci Chevy small block. The block is an aluminum Rodeck with AFR aluminum heads and Edelbrock direct port fuel injection. The transmission is a Tremec 5-speed. The rear end is a Strange Ford 9-inch with 3:73 gears. The suspension is all QA1 tubular control arms, with dropped spindles and coilover shocks on all four corners. The brakes are Wilwood 6 piston in the front, and 4 piston in the rear. The steering column is a Flaming River tilt. The seat’s upholstery and headliner are from TMI.
Jim enjoys the family atmosphere around the classic car culture, as Jim grew up in a car family and so did his wife. He actually met her while they both were working at a speed shop. Jim’s plan for the car is to drive it and enjoy it as much as possible. Hopefully doing many more car shows!
