John H’s 1970 Chevelle

Built From The Ground Up

John H’s 1970 Chevelle

This was John’s first car! It has been in the family since 1979. His dad bought it for John’s mom, but she hated it so it was given to him. He learned to drive and took his driver’s license test in this car. John drove it in high school and had his senior picture taken with it.

Shortly after graduation John got his first full-time job and was able to start modifying it. Air Shocks, Keystone Raider wheels, and a bored-out 350 added to its 1980s street vibe. Eventually, they pulled all of the hot rod parts off and put it back to stock so John’s dad could enjoy it. He passed away late last year, and it’s back in John’s care now.

John switched out the rally wheels for a set of Torq Thrusts, put another set of Gabriel H-Jacker air shocks in it, and added some Classic Auto air conditioning. It has the original numbers matching 250hp 350 in it, which John and his dad rebuilt together in the early 90s.

The car was built at the Van Nuys California assembly plant during the second week of March 1970 and was shipped to Red River Chevrolet in Bossier City La. That dealer is still around and John passes by it on his daily drive to work. The car features a white power convertible top and was repainted factory Champagne Gold. Hanging on his shop wall, John has the original build sheet, original steering wheel, and original rear bumper featuring racing and radio station decals from the 80s.

Long-term plans include an updated small block engine, overdrive transmission, beefed-up differential, and an interior refresh. John’s family are planning to drive it on the Hot Rod Power Tour this summer.

"Good prices, good quality parts and fast service!"
