After John Q graduated high school in 1966, he bought himself a Marina Blue 1966 Chevelle SS for a few years until he joined the Air Force in 1968 and was forced to sell.
The urge to own another ’66 never quite left John, but other responsibilities took priority up until a few years ago.
This 1966 Chevelle SS came to John from one of his friends who had saved it from a racing career years ago. The person who had been setting the car up to drag race had abruptly lost their job and were forced to sell the car, where John’s friend came in and purchased it with the intent on restoring it to factory specification. He got the Chevelle about 90% of the way done when circumstances forced him to sell the car as well.
Luckily, this was just what John was looking for and he acquired it from his friend, bringing the restoration to approximately 97% of the way done, simply lacking some minor finishing details as it sits now.
The Chevelle’s original 396/360hp mill has been bored .30 over to 402ci and has a mild cam upgrade making roughly 400hp paired to the Muncie M20 4-speed transmission.
