John purchased his 1967 Chevelle in 1999 from a junkyard in Austin TX. John, his wife, Maria, and his friend, Dennis Perez, all started work on the old car. They took the Car apart 100% and started the restoration. It took approximately three years to get it on the road.
The Paint was done by Peter Perez, and it’s now the original color, Marina Blue. John’s first engine was a 383 Stroker that he built with around 600 hp. After years of hard work, the car did really well at local car shows, winning several Best in Show awards. He also participated in a couple Super Chevy Shows and 3 Houston Auto Rama Shows, winning first and second places.
The ’67 Chevelle now has a complete TMI interior and a LS-3 Swap and Tremec TKO 600 5 speed with Gm performance harness and ECU. The car has tubular control arms and QA1 coil-overs all around, as well as, Wilwood disc brakes on all 4 corners. John has also added Doug’s Headers and 3-inch Pypes muffler system. The wheels are US Mags U104 Chrome Plated 17×8 front, 18×9 rear. The tires are Nitto 555.
The car is unique because it is a 1967 Chevelle Sedan 300 Deluxe, which was only 1 of around 4,500 made!
John’s future plans are to get a ghost flames paint job and a Blower. They also include the possibility of going back to 6 or 8 speed automatic transmission and an air ride suspension.
