Marks 1970 Chevelle Story. Mark started working in auto garages and dealerships like GM and Ford in 1975. 47 years later, he is still an auto tech for a Ford Dealership. He’s had a passion for GM muscle cars all his life. He had a 1972 Buick Riviera Gran Sport that he loved and cherished in the 70s and 80s but sold it to buy a boat. Huge mistake.
He stayed away from Classic cars for years because of that bad judgment. He was at his Fiancee’s cabin in North Carolina in November of 2017 playing on the computer when she mentioned Floyd Garretts Muscle car museum in Sevierville, Tennessee.
He didn’t want to go because he knew he would catch the fever getting around those cars again and would have to have one of his past favorites. He reluctantly went because she wanted to see the ’90s cars he had there.
Well, he saw all the classic cars and knew it was time to find a Chevelle SS or Buick Gran Sport, his two favorite cars. He found his 1970 Chevelle SS in December at Motor City Classic Cars in Vero Beach, Florida, and made it his own.
His 1970 Chevelle Super Sport is a 396 (402) 4-speed car. He has spent the last 3 yrs doing another frame-off restoration because he wanted his car as new to take to shows and meet car people.
The 1970 Chevelle was in a car collectors stable of classics and was restored 10 yrs before he purchased it in 2017. He restored the Chevelle per the Heritage Build sheet packet from GM. As a bonus, when they replaced the front seat materials, they found the original line sequence sheet in the driver’s seat.
The 1970 Chevelle is a true Super Sport built at the Oshawa, Canada assembly plant on January 9th, 1970. Sold at Capitol Motors LTD Hartford, Connecticut. He obtained the GM Heritage Build sheet from the GM preservation society at Oshawa. It is a genuine 396 350hp with M20 transmission 3.31 gears all matching numbers. One of 3306 SuperSport 396 350hp L34 Z25 package cars that was built at Oshawa.
He finished the restoration in January of this year and has gone to 2 shows and won trophies at both. He just went to the Honor Flight car show for Vets in Florida and won the “Honor Flight Choice” trophy out of 212 cars. He drives it occasionally, mostly to shows on dry sunny days.
