Paul found an ad for (3) 1966 Chevelle wagons and he wound up buying 2 of them in Dec. of 2001.
In 1966, Paul tried to order a ’66 2 dr SS Chevelle wagon with all the SS options. He gave the salesman a wish list: 396/360, 4 speed, bucket seats, console, gauges, and all the SS options. The salesman came back and said, “I can give you everything but the 2 doors”. So he bought the SS hardtop, vowing that one day he would build the wagon that Chevrolet should have. Chevrolet only offered the 2dr wagon in ’64 and ’65.
“Back then 4 dr wagons weren’t that cool!”

Well someday finally came around 35 years later and it would be another 18 years before he had it finished. This car was finished in 2019… yep, a long term project for sure.
This 1966 Chevelle is equipped with a Police Interceptor 350 roller motor and Corvette TPI, Camaro 6 speed (manual) trans, and Eaton posi rear, bucket seats, console, complete SS interior, Vintage Air, tilt wheel, PS, 4 wheel PDB, power windows, locks, and more.
Down the road, I’d like to replace the 350 TPI with a more modern LS3 still leaving the third pedal!

“A magazine writer at a show I attended said the car was too good? It looked like a stock 2dr wagon with a nice paint job and a set of wheels… Most people wouldn’t realize that a 2dr WAS NOT offered in 1966 and can’t see the many hours that went into making it look factory… Go Figure?”

A few other updates to this 1966 Chevelle include a few in the engine compartment and it now has a complete Ridetech system with Strong Arm suspension. Paul gives a big shout-out to Robb and Joe of Hot Rods East and the Thursday night gang for all their help in getting this done!
