It seems that this 1968 Camaro was lucky to have landed in Ricardo’s hands, as he has taken great care towards restoring the car and upgrading anything that needed it.
It was originally red with silver stripes and he has since changed it to yellow with black stripes to better suit his tastes. The original automatic transmission has also been replaced with a 4 speed Muncie M20 for more fun getting the power to the ground. The seats have been reupholstered and had the bolstering brought back up to spec with new foams.
Ricardo has opted to go with an Edelbrock EFI Pro Flo 3 system on the currently equipped 383 stroker to enhance the fuel system along with Hooker headers, a big cam, and hydraulic lifters. Power steering has been added to make this Camaro more drivable, and Mickey Thompson tires are shoed on all four corners. This allows the Camaro to put down the roughly 500 hp to the wheels with ease.
This Camaro was originally spotted by Ricardo’s brother just outside of their town. He proceeded to tail the Camaro to its residence and approached the current owner. He was a bit nervous as the man seemed a little off, as it turns out the man had also been weary and was actually reaching for his gun, thinking he was about to be robbed!
After clearing up the misconception, the two began chatting about the Camaro and Ricardo’s interest in owning one. His brother gave Ricardo a call and he was soon on his way to check out the 1968 Camaro. He fell in love with the Camaro as soon as he saw it and decided that he wanted to purchase it, but he was about to go on a family trip that weekend so the timing wasn’t great.
The man allowed Ricardo to put a deposit on the Camaro and inspect it once he returned from the trip. As soon as he had returned, he went right over to give the Camaro a full inspection. Satisfied that everything checked out, he agreed to the seller’s asking price without even trying to haggle. Fortunately, he had just retired and had the funds to cover a fun purchase such as this Camaro. Now Ricardo can say he has had the opportunity to own his dream car.
After that rocky start, the two even became good friends bonding over the memories that this 1968 Camaro provided them both. Ricardo has owned 11 Camaros between himself and his brother, so it was a great feeling to be back in the seat of one after all those years.
The irony is that one of his friends had wrecked his last one and that became the catalyst for Ricardo to get out of muscle cars for a few years while he prioritized his family and their wellbeing. With the kids all grown up and himself now retired, it was time to get back in the saddle once again.
