Scot K was inspired to get this 1963 Nova by his uncle, who has a black ’63 Nova SS with a built 350 small block. Ever since he first saw his uncle’s Nova, he knew he had to have one.
The logical thing was to buy one and that’s what Scot did with his father after graduating high school. He liked the Nova so much that his father gifted it to him on his 21st birthday.
The first order of business for this 1963 Nova was a custom paint job. The second order of business? Refresh the included 350 LT-1 engine in this former drag car. Power is launched via a TH350 with a 2500 RPM stall. Scot didn’t think the LT-1 was fast enough, so in 2016 the LT-1 was swapped for a 425hp crate 350.
Race cars are never finished, so Scot plans on beefing the Nova up with a 9 inch rear end and possible a rear coilover conversion. While the TH350 does a great job, he’s considering going to an overdrive transmission or a 6-speed manual but is currently undecided on the route to take. His interior could use some more race appropriate mods such as race bucket seats, but time will tell.
