Get Your Kicks....On These Routes
With summer just around the corner, we are itching to get behind the wheel and put some miles on our classics here at Ground Up Motors. Last year we talked about six scenic drives you could take, but there were some other suggestions that came in so we figured we’d cover those as well.

From the first article, we had the following drives:
- Pacific Coast Highway, California
- Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia and North Carolina
- Going-to-the-Sun Road, Montana
- Historic Columbia River Highway, Oregon
- Outerbanks Scenic Byway, North Carolina
- Route 66 “The Main Street Of America”
All of these are amazing and historic drives you can and should take. But that’s not all the amazing roads there are in the United States of America. Here’s a few more to add to the list so you can really appreciate the beauty of this nation.

2. Natchez Trace Parkway – Mississippi to Tennessee
Where: Natchez, MS to Nashville, TN
Why: Smooth, tree-lined pavement with 444 miles of gentle curves and historical stops. Perfect for an easygoing drive that feels like a time capsule through southern history.

3. Kancamagus Highway – New Hampshire (Route 112)
Where: Lincoln to Conway, NH
Why: Especially gorgeous in the fall, this route winds through the White Mountains and is full of sweeping views, covered bridges, and riverside pull-offs. A peaceful classic car cruise.

4. Beartooth Highway – Montana & Wyoming (U.S. Route 212)
Where: Red Lodge, MT to the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone
Why: This drive is known as “the most beautiful drive in America.” It climbs up to 10,947 feet with switchbacks, alpine lakes, and endless vistas. We want to do this one in a convertible to really take it all in.

5. Great River Road – Along the Mississippi River
Where: Follows the Mississippi River through 10 states from Minnesota to Louisiana
Why: A legendary American route that runs along the mighty Mississippi with charming river towns, scenic overlooks, and that soulful deep South character. Plus, who doesn’t love some southern food in Memphis?

6. Lake Shore Drive – Chicago, Illinois (U.S. Route 41)
Where: Along the Lake Michigan shoreline in Chicago
Why: City meets classic cool. Drive your classic Chevy ride past skyscrapers, Navy Pier, and Lake Michigan with one of the best urban skylines in the country as your backdrop.
Any of these drives would be perfect in a classic, just cruising along and enjoying the sights. If you need any parts to make that drive more enjoyable, head on over to SS396.com or give our friendly techs a call at (203) 235-1200!
