This alternator is deigned to work on cars originally equipped with an internally regulated alternator. Since cars with short water pumps and cars up to 1972 did not come with internally regulated alternators some modifications may be needed. The rear support mount on an internally regulated alternator is not in the correct position for applications where the alternator is mounted on the driver’s side therefore it may not be possible to use the rear support bracket. That decision is of course up to the end user, but that should not be an issue unless it is a high rpm race engine. Additionally the position of the plug on the back of internally regulated alternators may interfere with the valve cover if used on the drivers side. You will also have to change the plug on the end of the wiring harness to match this alternator if yours was originally externally regulated.
